National Geographic's International Photography Contest 2009

National Geographic's International Photography Contest attracts thousands of entries from photographers of all skill levels around the world every year. While this year's entry deadline has passed, there is still time to view and vote for your favorites in the Viewer's Choice competition. National Geographic was kind enough to let me choose a few of their entries from 2009 for display here on The Big Picture. Collected below are 25 images from the three categories of People, Places and Nature. Captions were written by the individual photographers.

World’s Biggest Cruise Ship Ever

Oasis of the Seas is a cruise ship in the fleet of Royal Caribbean International. Oasis measures 225,282 gross tons, several times larger than Titanic. The ship's power comes from six marine diesel engines producing 18,860 kilowatts each and three similar 12-cylinder engines each producing 13,860 kilowatts. Oasis of the Seas will offer passengers features such as two-story loft suites and luxury suites measuring 1,600 sq ft (150 m2) with balconies overlooking the sea or promenades. The ship features a zip-line, a casino, a mini-golf course, four swimming pools, volleyball and basketball courts, theme parks and nurseries for children. I will definitely make a one-month tour on one of such cruise ships. It must be fantastic!
